RECRUITMENT CALL FROM THE CCR2P

The Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect is currently recruiting for the following positions on the Board of Directors and welcomes applications from qualified candidates. Based at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto, the CCR2P is Canada’s leading research and advocacy organization on the R2P principle. Eligibility:

- Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in any Canadian universities with a minimum 3.3 CGPA (Preference will be given to U of T students)

- Any recent alumni or a professional with a strong interest and experience on R2P

- A demonstrated passion and interest for the study and advocacy of R2P principle

- Able to commit to September 2014-May 2015 (inclusive) and be able to attend monthly board meetings in Toronto, ON, Canada

- Previous involvement in the CCR2P’s research or advocacy divisions will be valued.

- statement of interest which clearly identifies your interest in R2P, the CCR2P and the position you are applying for. Please be specific in your skill sets, past extra-curricular experiences, as well as your ideas and visions for CCR2P in the upcoming year as well.

- an electronic copy of university transcript (ROSI screenshot is fine)

- a short writing sample (max 500 words – feel free to answer the following prompt: “What are some key challenges facing the implementation of R2P principle? What role can civil societies play in the research and advocacy of R2P principle?”)

- contact information for two references (one academic and one professional)

PLEASE NOTE: Successful candidates may be interviewed. All applications will be considered on a rolling basis but only the successful candidates will be contacted. All Board of Directors positions are volunteer positions and will formally resume on September 1, 2014. A comprehensive training will take place throughout summer. A separate call for 2014-2015 research analysts will be released in early July, so please stay tuned!

1. Deputy Director of Research (Undergraduate)

- The Deputy Director of Research will report directly to the Director of Research on a weekly basis and will be responsible for training of all of our research analysts, as well as ensuring successful outcomes for our bi-annual reports.

- Responsible for managing CCR2P’s undergraduate research efforts and leading a team of 50+ analysts for our annual reports

- Must be familiar with the U of T’s programs/departments in IR/PCJ/History/Poli-sci (preference will be given to a senior undergraduate student in international relations)

- Must demonstrate previous involvement and experience with R2P scholarship

- Familiarity with R2Plive.org database and management experience will be valued

- Fluency in French is an asset

 

2. Director of Research (Graduate)

- CCR2P’s research divisions are rapidly expanding. The Graduate Director of Research will be responsible for managing CCR2P’s graduate divisions across Canada and further cultivating relationship with U of T’s graduate programs

- This position requires an advanced understanding of R2P principle in international affairs, as well as a general familiarity of the Canadian government’s position on R2P in the last decade.

- It also entails a significant amount of human resource management and adherence to the overall goals and strategies of the Centre’s research efforts. Most importantly, a strict sense of research ethics, commitment to deadlines, and advanced writing skills will be valued, as well as language skills if relevant. Managerial experience or extra-curricular experiences will be valued.

- Master’s degree in human rights/international law or a Ph.D. candidate (post-comprehensive stage or ABD) in R2P-related research will be given preference

- Must demonstrate a strong scholarly interest on R2P research, as well as experience in collaborative research or peer-reviewed journals
- Fluency in French/Spanish is an asset

 

3. Director of Logistics & Operations

- Responsible for various logistical planning process within the CCR2P

- Lead the recruitment and training process for advocacy committees in close collaboration with the Managing Director

- Familiarity with CCR2P’s past events will be valued

- Excellent communication skills and time management skills are required

- Previous training in event planning and familiarity with the U of T’s institutional culture and programs will be an asset

 

4. Director of Finance & Fundraising

- Responsible for all financial aspects of the CCR2P, including budget projection, accounting, financial records, as well as managing donor relations

- Previous experience in commerce/accounting required

- Familiarity with the U of T’s institutional culture on financial management and fundraising will be an asset

- Preference will be given to senior students enrolled at the Rotman School of Commerce or those pursuing an M.B.A. degree

 

5. Director of Communications

- Responsible for producing an annual communication strategy for the Centre’s activities, as well as all visual materials for promotional purposes

- Previous experience and training in communication-related roles on U of T campus will be valued (familiarity with mailchimp required)

- Liaise closely with the social media coordinator, webmaster and the director of media relations to publicize CCR2P’s activities

- Familiarity with Adobe graphic programs, infographics and any other training in graphic design will be valued

- Superb command of English and French will be required for this position

6. Editor-in-Chief for the CCR2P Editorial Board

- Responsible for overseeing the editorial process for all of CCR2P’s publications, in partnership with other members of the Editorial Board

- Superb command of English is essential. Candidates with fluency in French will be preferred, though not required.

- Previous experience in peer-reviewed journals or news outlets will be valued

7. Webmaster & Social Media Coordinator

- Responsible for managing CCR2P’s online presence, through the website, Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, etc. on a weekly basis

- Familiarity with wordpress and computer programming will be valued

- Previous experience with human rights-related organization in a communication capacity will be valued

- Students in computer science/journalism are welcome to apply

- Candidates with a track record of accountability and excellent communication skills, as well as familiarity with CCR2P’s past activities will be valued
