Tina J. Park is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for R2P and oversees various strategic and operational aspects of the Centre. Tina has advised the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the 127th Assembly in Quebec City with Dr. Edward Luck, the former UN Secretary-General’s Representative on R2P. She further assisted the IPU at the 128th Assembly in Quito, Ecuador for the adoption of R2P Resolution entitled “The Role of Parliamentarians in Enforcing R2P.” Tina has participated in the civil society consultative process for the the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s Report on Responsibility to Protect since 2012 and has participated in the UN General Assembly's annual informal and interactive dialogue on R2P. Tina is a frequent commentator on R2P-related issues and has travelled around the world to advocate for the political implementation of R2P. Tina recently co-authored a book chapter with Victor MacDiamird on the role of private sector in implementing R2P, to be published by Cambridge University Press, 2015. An award-winning scholar, Tina is currently completing her Ph.D. dissertation at the  University of Toronto, focusing on a hundred years of history between Canada and Korea. Tina teaches Canadian foreign policy on campus and has served as a Junior Fellow at Massey College and a member of the Governing Council of University of Toronto. (www.tinapark.ca)

Victor MacDiarmid


Victor is currently pursuing a J.D. at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He was formerly employed as a consultant for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and has received his Master’s degree in the History of International Relations from the University of Toronto.  Victor also received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in International Relations. Prior to working with the CCR2P, Victor worked with the U of T chapter of UNICEF, monitored human rights abuses in the West Bank with the ISM and served on the Executive of the University of Toronto Ski Club. Victor oversees human resources and strategic planning at the CCR2P and has co-authored a publication with Dr. Jennifer Welsh, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on R2P.

Misha Boutilier

Misha is the Director of Graduate Research at the Canadian Centre for R2P. He is currently pursuing a J.D. at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. Misha holds an Honours B.A. with high distinction in international relations and history from the University of Toronto. He is the recipient of the Governor-General’s Silver Medal for graduating with the highest standing in Arts from the University of Toronto. He also received the All Souls Prize from the Department of History for his senior thesis on the roots of the Responsibility to Protect in Canadian foreign policy. Outside of CCR2P, Misha has served as a Junior Fellow with the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History. He recently traveled to the Caucasus to conduct research on anti-discrimination legislation in Georgia.

Nouhaila Chelkhaoui

Nouhaila, from Morocco, came to Canada to pursue studies at the University of Toronto from which she obtained her B.A. in Political Science. Passionate about justice and international human rights, she has completed work in human rights advocacy in various countries including Brazil, Morocco, and Turkey. In light of historical and current atrocities, she has a particular interest in the implementation of R2P as a policy and in mainstreaming human rights and equality in a legal capacity. Nouhaila held the position of Supervisor at the University of Toronto Development Fund prior to joining CCR2P as Director of Administration. Nouhaila is also multilingual with fluency in English, French, and Arabic, and intermediate proficiency in Spanish.

Kelsey is a second-year student at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. She recently graduated from the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One Program in International Relations, and she is currently double-majoring in History and Ethics, Society, & Law with a minor in American Studies. An aspiring national security lawyer, Kelsey is particularly interested in the legal dimensions of R2P. Kelsey is fully bilingual in English and French and looks forward to engaging with you in both languages via the Centre’s various social media.

Hunter is a second-year International Relations and Economics student interested in studying international institutions and other structured forms of cross-border cooperation. The relationship between these organizations and R2P is a topic of great interest to him, having become a research interest of his while in the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Program International Relations Stream. Serving CCR2P as a research analyst last year, Hunter is thrilled to join the Board of Directors and looks forward to continuing the university chapters project that he worked on as an intern this past summer. He also works with the North American Model United Nations as Director of General Assemblies.

Joudy is a second year student pursuing a double major in International Relations and Ethics, Society and Law. Interested in the relationship between these two disciplines, she sees R2P as a vital principle for peaceful international relationships. After a summer internship with CCR2P, Joudy hopes to expand the center's engagement with the Middle East through the Arabic division of R2P Live as an Associate Director.

Michael Switzer

Michael is going into his second year as a student at Trinity college of the University of Toronto. He intends to pursue a major in Philosophy and a specialist in either International Relations or Peace, Conflict and Justice.  A recent graduate of the International Relations stream of the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One program, Michael is interested particularly in the intersection between the theory and practice of distributive justice, socioeconomic conditions, and human rights-- all of which are considerations within R2P. Having grown up in Egypt, Michael has experienced first-hand the sheer magnitude of instability in the Middle East and is acutely aware of how vital the efforts of the international world are in ensuring lasting regional stability. He is very much looking forward to advancing the scope of public discourse on R2P by serving as the Centre’s director of Community Outreach.

Darya is entering her third year at University of Toronto and pursuing a major in International Relations and minors in Sociology and European Union Studies. This summer she has been interning with CCR2P as R2P Live Intern for Russia. She currently volunteers as a correspondent at the Organization for World Peace where she writes articles on international affairs. Apart from her interest in international relations, particularly Russian foreign policy, she is also interested in sociology and enjoys working as a research assistant for Professor Lorne Tepperman.

Hélène Émorine is a second year student at Trinity College at the University of Toronto. She graduated from the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One International Relations Stream and plans to pursue a specialist major in International Relations and a minor in European Union Studies. Fully bilingual in French and English and fluent in Spanish, Hélène is very interested in relations between the European Union and Canada as well as the role of international institutions in global governance.
