Tina Park | Executive Director, Co-Founder | executive.director@ccr2p.org

Tina Jiwon Park is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Centre for R2P and oversees various strategic and operational aspects of the Centre. Tina has advised the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at the 127th Assembly in Quebec City with Dr. Edward Luck, the former UN Secretary-General’s Representative on R2P. She further assisted the IPU at the 128th Assembly in Quito, Ecuador for the adoption of R2P Resolution entitled “The Role of Parliamentarians in Enforcing R2P.” Tina has participated in the civil society consultative process for the the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s Report on Responsibility to Protect, which was released in the fall of 2013. Tina is a frequent commentator on R2P-related issues and has travelled around the world to advocate for the implementation of R2P. An award-winning scholar, Tina is currently writing her Ph.D. dissertation at the Department of History, University of Toronto, on a hundred years of history between Canada and Korea. She is a Junior Fellow at Massey College and a member of the Governing Council of University of Toronto. (www.tinapark.org)

 

Victor MacDiarmid | Co-Founder | victor.macdiarmid85@gmail.com

Victor is currently pursuing a J.D. at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He was formerly employed as a consultant for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and has received his Master’s degree in the History of International Relations from the University of Toronto.  Victor also received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in International Relations. Prior to working with the CCR2P, Victor worked with the U of T chapter of UNICEF, monitored human rights abuses in the West Bank with the ISM and served on the Executive of the University of Toronto Ski Club. Victor oversees human resources and strategic planning at the CCR2P and has co-authored a publication with Dr. Jennifer Welsh, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on R2P.

 

Megan McGinnis-Dunphy | Director of Administration 

Megan McGinnis-Dunphy recently obtained an MSc. in International Development and Humanitarian Emergencies at the London School of Economics, where she also helped to produce a report on women’s leadership at the community level for the UK Department for International Development’s Gender Learning Group. Megan completed her Honours B.A. at Trinity College at the University of Toronto, having majored in Peace and Conflict Studies and International Development. The Responsibility to Protect was a prominent feature of her undergraduate coursework, and interest in its applications inspired her academic shift toward international development and humanitarianism. Megan currently works as a research assistant at Mount Sinai Hospital and as administrative coordinator at InsideOut Physiotherapy, and enjoys volunteering at Casey House.

 

Misha Boutilier | Director of Research (Undergraduate) & Director of the R2P Scholars Network | research@ccr2p.org

Misha Boutilier is the Director of Research (Undergraduate) and the Director of the R2P Scholars Network at the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect. This March, he led the planning of the Centre’s conference on the prevention of mass atrocities to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide. Misha writes regularly on international affairs for a variety of publications, and is particularly interested in the role of R2P in Canadian foreign policy.  Entering his fourth year at the University of Toronto, Misha studies International Relations and History. He is the President of the University of Toronto United Nations Society.

 

Rachel J. Gunn | Co-Managing Editor of R2PLive | managing.editor@ccr2p.org

Rachel is a third-year student pursuing an International Relations Specialist and an Economics Major, with a deep interest in economic history. She is the recipient of the Margaret Macmillan Scholarship in Trinity One (International Relations). Last summer, she had the opportunity to study R2P & Myanmar as a S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies research intern in Singapore. In April this year, she was invited to take part in a student panel discussion with Dr. Madeleine Albright and Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, organized by CCR2P and the Bill Graham Centre. When she’s not raising R2PLive’s profile in the scholarly world, she runs the 2015 U of T Model United Nations conference (utmun.org), and researches emerging norms in environmental economics for Professor Anjomshoa.

Elizabeth Tudor-Bezies | Director of Media Relations | media@ccr2p.org

Elizabeth is currently in her third year at Trinity College in the University of Toronto, pursuing a B.A in Political Science and European Studies. She is a graduate of U of T’s  Trinity One Program for International Relations. Elizabeth is fluent in French and English  as she is from France, and is currently studying Spanish as her minor. She also has elementary proficiency in Serbian, Bosnian, Croatian and Montenegrin. Her interests outside of CCR2P include choir, European politics and foreign films. She is very excited to be part of the CCR2P team this year!

 

 

Angel Difan Chu | Co-Managing Editor of R2PLive | managing.editor@ccr2p.org

Angel Difan Chu is in her third year pursuing a double major in History & International Relations, and a minor in Italian. Outside of CCR2P, Angel is an executive member of the History Students Association and University of Toronto Model United Nations. She is also a Junior Research Fellow at the NATO Council of Canada and a research analyst at the G20 Research Group. Angel is particularly interested in the ethnic conflict resolution aspect of R2P. A graduate of the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One Program, Angel is a recipient of the Trinity College In-Course Scholarship and a Dean’s List Scholar.

 

Camilla Shearman | Director of Communications | communications@ccr2p.org

Camilla is a fourth year student in International Relations and Peace, Conflict and Justice Studies. She is particularly interested in East and North-East Africa and peace building initiatives. She has previously managed communications for the International Relations Society,  and is also a Parliamentary Analyst at CCR2P. She is excited to be a part of t CCR2P team this year!

 

Gloria Kim | Director of McGill Law Research Division |gloriakimh@gmail.com

Gloria is a B.C.L./LL.B. Candidate at the McGill Faculty of Law. She was formerly a student at the University of Toronto where she double-majored in International Relations and Economics. She also completed the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One Program, International Relations stream. Gloria has worked for the Honourable Senator Yonah Martin as her Legislative Assistant for a parliamentary internship. Her interests are in international development.

 

Advocacy

Freda Zhang | Co-Chair of 2015 Film Festival

Freda Zhang is a third year student specializing in Political Science and majoring in International Relations at Trinity College. She has been involved with CCR2P for the past two years as a R2PLive analyst, where she developed a strong interest towards the study of conflict resolution and international human rights. She currently serves as the Executive Secretary for Hart House Music Committee and a member of Hart HouseBoard of Stewards. Also, she volunteers for the Court Support Programme under Elizabeth Fry Society during her spare time. Outside of school, she likes music, reading, swimming and horseback riding. 

 
 

Alexandria Matic | Co-Chair of Youth/Education Outreach Committee

Alexandria Matic is a fourth year International Relations student at the University of Toronto.   She is currently completing an independent study on digital security challenges, as a participant in Victoria College’s Capstone Research Colloquium.  Alexandria has received a number of awards for her academic achievements, including the George Ignatieff Scholarship in International Relations and the Robert H. Catherwood G8 Scholarship. 

Beyond the classroom, Alexandria strives to encourage greater civic engagement among young women, as the co-president of an Equal Voice youth chapter.  She is currently working as a Student Usher in the Ontario Legislative Assembly, and serves as the Director of Civil Society Studies for the G8/G20 Research Group. Alexandria is also passionate about the arts, and is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dance’s examination program. 

In September, Alexandria will be commencing her studies at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law.  She hopes to use her legal education to pursue a rewarding career in international law and public service.

Delila Bikic | Co-Chair of Youth/Education Outreach Committee

Delila Bikic is a fourth year Victoria College student at the University of Toronto, studying Political Science, History, and European Studies. While Delila’s interests in politics and international affairs are diverse, her academic interests include the European Union enlargement in the West Balkans, the history of humanitarian intervention, and post-conflict studies. When not researching or writing, Delila strives to develop herself as both a leader and a difference maker, with a goal to make her own contribution to the university community and society, at large. Outside the classroom, Delila is the Co-Founder and Co-President of the Equal Voice Victoria Youth Chapter, a research analyst for the annual European Studies Student Journal, and will be participating in the G8 research group as a Civil Society and Compliance analyst for 2015. At the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (CCR2P), Delila serves as the Co-Chair of the Youth and Education Committee. Her visits to Sarajevo and Srebrenica Genocide Memorial during commemorative ceremonies showed her that a conflict ridden past endures as a powerful instrument in shaping beliefs and attitudes of new generations. Given this inspiration, Delila looks forward to organizing this year’s workshop initiative for high school students to educate them on the relevance and applicability of the R2P principle in international affairs. 

 

Gabriel Sahlegebriel | First Year Representative

Gabriel Sahlegebriel is a first year student at the University of Toronto. Enrolled in the Trinity One IR stream program, he plans on double majoring in International Relations and Political Science. Sahlegebriel was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and has lived in Lagos, Addis Ababa, Ottawa, Los Angeles, and Toronto respectively. Living in culturally diverse cities and drastically different countries, he has come to develop a deep interest in understanding the factors that influence and shape the international community. As the First Year Representative for the CCR2P, he will work to engage first year students and raise awareness about the R2P principle. Sahlegebriel enjoys playing soccer and is an enthusiastic Manchester United FC fan.

Benson Cheung| Deputy Director of the R2P Scholars Network

Benson Cheung is a third year student at the University of Toronto studying political science and history. Having been introduced to R2P through Model United Nations, he looks forward to contributing to networking scholars and other experts focusing on R2P from a variety of disciplines. He enjoys reading and debating political issues, learning about findings from diverse research fields, and participating in Model UN


Jordan Deagle  | Director of Conference Logistics 

Jordan attended Carleton University on an athletic scholarship after playing five years in the Western Hockey League. At Carleton, Jordan pursued a double-major in journalism and political science and earned both dean's list and Academic All-Canadian honours in each of the four years. In the summer of 2013, he moved to Washington D.C. in order to take a fellowship at the academic institution known as The Washington Center while simulataneously interning at the CBC's Washington bureau under Neil Macdonald. Last summer, Jordan won the Jaimie Anderson Parliamentary Internship and worked as a special assistant in the office of the Rt. Honourable Scott Brison. Currently, Jordan is completing his graduate studies in the field of international relations, where he is examining the role of humanitarian intervention in the 19th century. 

 
Randy is a 4th year student at UofT studying International Relations and Cinema Studies. He currently works at Innis College as a photo-videographer. He has also been involved in a number of film festivals including the Toronto Korean Film Festival as a programmer and the CCR2P's Eyes on Genocide Film Festival as a co-chair. This year for the CCR2P, Randy is in charge of shooting, editing, and archiving conference videos, and will oversee the 2nd Eyes on Genocide Film Festival.
