Dr. Tina J. Park is the co-founder & executive director of the Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect based at the Munk School of Global Affairs. In that capacity, she has advised over thirty governments and international organizations on their policies on R2P, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assemby under the former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. Dr. Park has addressed the UN General Assembly dialogue on R2P every year since 2014. 

Dr. Park is also one of Canada's leading experts on North Korea and Canadian-Korean relations. She is a frequent commentor on CBC News, CTV, BNN, Global News and CBC Power & Politics, and has published two book chapters and a dozen articles on defence and security issues. Dr. Park currently serves as a Vice-President of the NATO Association of Canada and a fellow of the Asian Institute at the Munk School of Global Affairs. In her free time, Dr.Park co-manages the U of T Women in House program with the Hon. Carolyn Bennett, an annual program aimed at promoting gender equality in federal politics. Always a ball of energy, Dr. Park speaks six languages and enjoys travelling.

Michael is a Fourth year student at Trinity college of the University of Toronto, pursuing a specialist in International Relations and a major in Philosophy.  A graduate of the International Relations stream of the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One program, Michael is interested particularly in the intersection between the theory and practice of distributive justice, socioeconomic conditions, and human rights-- all of which are key considerations within R2P. Michael is very much looking forward to advancing the scope of public discourse on R2P by serving as the Centre’s Deputy Executive Director.

Victor MacDiarmid


Victor is currently pursuing a J.D. at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. He was formerly employed as a consultant for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and has received his Master’s degree in the History of International Relations from the University of Toronto.  Victor also received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto in International Relations. Prior to working with the CCR2P, Victor worked with the U of T chapter of UNICEF, monitored human rights abuses in the West Bank with the ISM and served on the Executive of the University of Toronto Ski Club. Victor oversees human resources and strategic planning at the CCR2P and has co-authored a publication with Dr. Jennifer Welsh, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on R2P.

Tracy Luong

Tracy is a second-year Master of Global Affairs student at the University of Toronto. After completing her undergraduate studies in health sciences and sustainable community development at Simon Fraser University, she worked as an Administrative Assistant and Research Assistant at the Children's Health Policy Centre. In these roles, she contributed to a province-wide evaluation of a nurse-visitation program in British Columbia. Tracy has now set her eyes on a career in the public sector and is particularly interested in the implementation of R2P. She looks forward to contributing to the work of the CCR2P and advancing the discourse on R2P.

Benjamin Maclean-Max

Ben is in his third year of an undergraduate degree at U of T, with a major in Peace, Conflict, and Justice studies, and minors in Philosophy and Women and Gender Studies. A graduate of the Margaret Macmillan Trinity One program, Ben has worked with the G7 Research Group, the Mindful Journal of Ethics and the Trinity Review of Art, and currently works with Students for Partners in Health: Toronto, the U of T Pre-Law Society Mooting Board, the Peace, Conflict and Justice Society, and the Rapoport Journal alongside his responsibilities with the CCR2P. Ben is looking forward to another busy year with the CCR2P, and is very excited to be continuing in his role as Editor-In-Chief for the upcoming Canadian Journal on the Responsibility to Protect.

Stephen Chankov

Stephen is a second-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. Having completed the Margaret McMillan Trinity One Program (International Relations Stream) in first year, he is currently pursuing a double major in International Relations and Peace, Conflict and Justice Studies. Stephen is passionate about exploring other cultures, histories, worldviews, and languages. He speaks Bulgarian, English, French, German, and Spanish, and wants to learn many more languages. Stephen's areas of interest include the defense of human rights, humanitarian interventions, Eastern European and East Asian history, and indigenous rights. He is looking forward to working with the CCR2P this year as its director of Internal Communications.

Jonah Toth

Jonah Toth is a third-year undergraduate student currently pursuing a Major in Chemistry, a Major in Peace, Conflict and Justice Studies, a Minor in Environmental Chemistry, and a French Language Citation. His diverse programs of study reflect his interdisciplinary approach to research on a wide range of topics, from international humans rights norms to the effects of climate change on low-income populations. Originally from Saskatchewan, Jonah is actively involved in the community and has been recognized with the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers and as the 2018 Saskatchewan Red Cross Young Humanitarian of the Year.

Aisha Ryan

Aisha Ryan is a fourth year Trinity College student pursuing a double major in International Relations and Health Studies. She has an acute interest in the practical application of human rights frameworks to international crises and the impact of this on development. This year, Aisha is the Co-President of the International Relations Society and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Attaché Journal of International Affairs. Aisha spent last summer interning at the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples, and has previously worked for The Right Honourable David Johnston, 28th Governor General of Canada, and at the Treasury Board Secretariat of Canada. Aisha is excited to spend this year producing novel research that speaks to the Canadian commitment to R2P.

Daniella Vana

Daniella is a third year student at the University of Toronto majoring in Political Science, and double minoring in Human Geography and Spanish.  She enjoys learning about other cultures and how countries interact in the ever-changing international sphere. Learning about the Kosovo war in the Pearson stream of Vic One, she has gained interest in the war crimes committed and human rights violations imposed. In addition, traveling to Southeast Asia has made her more aware of Indonesian migrant labour workers and how they are consistently targets of human rights violations. Daniella is also multilingual with fluency in English, French, Czech, and advanced proficiency in Spanish. She is excited to join the CCR2P as a Research Analyst to learn more about human rights and the role of international institutions in global governance.

Amira Higazy

Amira is a third-year Trinity College student at the University of Toronto, pursuing a specialist in Economics and a major in Political Science. She is particularly interested in international human rights law, and the intersection of global politics and economics on key issues related to poverty, global income inequality and gender inequality. Her other major interests include history, civil war and insurgency, and environmental economics. Learning about the great cost in human rights and human life in recent mass atrocities in her academic courses, Amira has gained an understanding of the importance of the R2P principle in preventing the reoccurrence of such events. She is excited to join the CCR2P as Co-Managing Director of R2P Live to contribute to the work of the CCR2P and aid in the crystallization of R2P into a norm of international law.

Safaa is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto majoring in Political Science, and minoring in Psychology, and French. Her interest in the forces that shape our society, and behaviour have led her to pursue studies in these fields. Her commitment to the community drove her to working as a Special Projects Assistant to the Hart House Department of Recreation and Wellness, in order to establish a more welcoming environment to underrepresented populations on campus. Having lived in Milan, Beijing and Zurich, Martina is excited to make Toronto her home. Currently enrolled in Munk One and working as a Crisis Analyst with NAMUN, she is always excited to engage with global affairs and international relations. She finds it especially interesting when global issues require critical thinking, in regard to often contentious moral values, ethics and principles of justice. She hopes to further her experience and knowledge of Canadian values and international human rights by working with CCR2P.

Armin is a first year student at Trinity College of the University of Toronto, currently pursuing International Relations and Neuroscience and enrolled in the Trinity One International Relations Stream. Armin is a current compliance analyst in the G7 and G20 research groups, as well as a first-year member of the International Relations Society based out of Trinity College. Armin was introduced to R2P through Speech and Debate career in high school when the CCR2P did a presentation on it prior to the Hart House tournament. Since, he has developed a further interest in CCR2P and its worldwide proliferation and implications.

Hunter is a third-year International Relations and Economics student interested in studying international institutions and other structured forms of cross-border cooperation. The relationship between these organizations and R2P is a topic of great interest to him, having become a research interest of his while in the Margaret MacMillan Trinity One Program International Relations Stream. Serving CCR2P as a research analyst last year, Hunter is thrilled to join the Board of Directors and looks forward to continuing the university chapters project that he worked on as an intern this past summer. He also works with the North American Model United Nations as Director of General Assemblies.
